Heat shock protein 90 (HSP90), a highly conserved and multi-functional molecular chaperone, plays an essential role in cellular metabolism and stress response. In this study, HSP90 cDNA named MaHSP90 was cloned from Wuchang bream (Megalobrama amblycephala) gills by using rapid amplification of cDNA ends. The full-length MaHSP90 cDNA is 2674 bp and consists of a 3',5'-untranslated region and a 2250-bp open reading frame encoding a 750-amino acid long protein. Identity analysis revealed that the amino acid sequence of MaHSP90 is highly conserved.

Development-related expression patterns of protein-coding and miRNA genes involved in porcine muscle growth

F. J. Wang, Jin, L., Guo, Y. Q., Liu, R., He, M. N., Li, M. Z., and Li, X. W., Development-related expression patterns of protein-coding and miRNA genes involved in porcine muscle growth, vol. 13, pp. 9921-9930, 2014.

Muscle growth and development is associated with remarkable changes in protein-coding and microRNA (miRNA) gene expression. To determine the expression patterns of genes and miRNAs related to muscle growth and development, we measured the expression levels of 25 protein-coding and 16 miRNA genes in skeletal and cardiac muscles throughout 5 developmental stages by quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction.

cDNA cloning and characterization of two trehalases from Spodoptera litura (Lepidoptera; Noctuidade)

Q. Zou, Wei, P., Xu, Q., Zheng, H. Z., Tang, B., and Wang, S. G., cDNA cloning and characterization of two trehalases from Spodoptera litura (Lepidoptera; Noctuidade), vol. 12, pp. 901-915, 2013.

The oriental leafworm moth, Spodoptera litura, is a major agricultural pest in southeast Asia and nearby Pacific regions. Two distinct trehalases have been identified in insects: soluble trehalase (Treh1) and membrane-bound trehalase (Treh2), although there is currently no information on these genes in S. litura. To characterize the distribution and function of treh, cDNAs of Treh proteins were cloned from S. litura.

Expression profile of insulin-like growth factor system genes in muscle tissues during the postnatal development growth stage in ducks

C. - L. Song, Liu, H. - H., Kou, J., Lv, L., Li, L., Wang, W. - X., and Wang, J. - W., Expression profile of insulin-like growth factor system genes in muscle tissues during the postnatal development growth stage in ducks, vol. 12, pp. 4500-4514, 2013.

Insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) are regulators that modulate the proliferation and differentiation of muscle tissues. We quantified the messenger RNA (mRNA) expression of IGF-I, IGF-II, and type I and II IGF receptors (IGF-IR and IGF-IIR) in muscle tissues including the breast, leg, and myocardium during an early postnatal development growth stage (post-hatching weeks 1-8) in ducks. The results showed a significant age-related change in mRNA in these muscle tissues.

Molecular cloning and expression analysis of two sex-lethal homolog genes during development in the oriental river prawn, Macrobrachium nipponense

Y. P. Zhang, Qiao, H., Zhang, W. Y., Sun, S. M., Jiang, S. F., Gong, Y. S., Xiong, Y. W., Jin, S. B., and Fu, H. T., Molecular cloning and expression analysis of two sex-lethal homolog genes during development in the oriental river prawn, Macrobrachium nipponense, vol. 12, pp. 4698-4711, 2013.

In this study, two Sxl gene homologs, designated as Mnsxl1 and Mnsxl2, were cloned and characterized from the freshwater prawn Macrobrachium nipponense by rapid amplification of cDNA ends. The deduced amino acid sequences of Mnsxl1 and Mnsxl2 showed high sequence homology to the insect Sxl and contained conserved domains in two RNA-binding motifs.

Developmental characteristics of pectoralis muscle in Pekin duck embryos

L. H. Gu, Xu, T. S., Huang, W., Xie, M., Shi, W. B., Sun, S. D., and Hou, S. S., Developmental characteristics of pectoralis muscle in Pekin duck embryos, vol. 12, pp. 6733-6742, 2013.

To confirm the entire developmental process and transition point of embryonic Pekin duck pectoral muscle, and to investigate the association between pectoral muscle development and their regulating genes, anatomical and morphological analyses of embryonic Pekin duck skeletal muscles were performed, and the expression patterns of its regulating genes were investigated. The anatomical analysis revealed that body weight increased with age, while increases in pectoral muscle weight nearly ceased after the embryo was 20 days of hatching (E20).
