Abstract

Diabetic striatopathy (DS) is an uncommon neurological complication of diabetes mellitus characterized by acute or subacute involuntary movements, most commonly hemichorea or hemiballismus, associated with hyperglycemia and characteristic abnormalities involving the striatum on neuroimaging. The putamen and caudate nucleus are frequently affected. Although the condition is classically associated with non-ketotic hyperglycemia, its clinical and radiological presentations are variable, and diagnosis requires correlation between clinical findings, biochemical investigations, and neuroimaging.
