Fluid mixtures of two components exhibit highly complex thermal and physical behaviors due to the interactions between different types of molecules․ These behaviors vary with the chemical structures of the substances present in a mixture and other factors such as concentration and temperature․ Understanding these nonideal behaviors is critical to many industrial processes involving two fluids‚ including chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing and power and solvent production․ This review provides a detailed overview of available information on the molecular and thermal properties of two-fluid mixtures․ Topics discussed in detail include viscosity‚ speed of sound‚ refractive index‚ density‚ and excess thermal properties of these mixtures․ Other topics include intermolecular forces such as dipole-dipole interactions‚ hydrogen bonding‚ steric effects‚ and London dispersion forces and their effects on fluid properties‚ as well as the influence of chemical structure‚ including functional groups and molecular size‚ on fluid properties․ Several theoretical approaches used to describe these behaviors‚ including NRTL‚ UNIQUAC‚ Margules‚ Redlich-Kister‚ ERAS‚ and friction models‚ are described and evaluated for their predictive value․ The review concludes that a combination of different thermal and physical properties provides the best information about intermolecular interactions and suggests that incorporating modern technologies such as artificial intelligence and molecular modeling techniques will help researchers develop powerful predictive tools to aid future research on fluid mixtures․
