SWARNA ABHA FACE LEPA (A HYPOTHETICAL AYURVEDIC FORMULATION) IN THE MANAGEMENT OF ACNE VULGARIS AND HYPERPIGMENTATION: A CASE REPORT

Abstract

Background- Acne vulgaris is a common, long-term inflammatory disease of the pilosebaceous follicles that affects people all over the world. Acne vulgaris is the eighth most common skin condition in the world, affecting between 9.4% and 20.5% of people globally. Nearly 85% of young individuals are affected, and women are more likely to experience it (23.6%) than males (17.5%). Up to 71.3% of patients get acne scarring which is a typical consequence. Case Presentation- A 21 year old female presented with complaint of Pidaka (Papules and putules) on face including pus (filling material), Todavat peeda (Piercing pain), Daha (Burning sensation), Srava (Discharge) Kandu (itching), shyavta(dark spots/acne marks), blackheads, whiteheads, sunburn, hyperpigmentation, post acne marks. Intervention- The patient was treated with a topical Ayurvedic lepa, Swarna Abha Face Lepa ( a hypothetical formulation) containing Sarson seeds, Vacha root, Lodhra stem, Saindhav lavana, Yastimadhu stem, Sweta chandan stem, Multani mitti along with triphala churna in the night with dietary and lifestyle modifications including yoga and pranayama. Results- After 30 days of treatment, significant improvement was observed. Reduction was observed in inflammatory lesions, comedones, erythema, and hyperpigmented acne marks, itching. Conclusion: Swarna Abha Lepa demonstrated significant therapeutic efficacy in reducing acne lesions and post acne pigmentation. It may serve as a safe and cost-effective Ayurvedic topical therapy for acne vulgaris. Significant result was observed with this treatment protocol in the management of Mukhadushika (Acne vulgaris).
