Background: This review aims to explore the pathophysiology, diagnostic approaches, and extensive impact of premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) on women's health. Methods: A comprehensive literature search was conducted across databases including PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar, utilizing keywords related to POI, including its causes, consequences, and treatment strategies. Articles published between January 2000 and October 2023 were included, focusing on studies that provide insights into the multifactorial aspects of POI. Results: POI is characterized by the loss of ovarian function prior to age 40, resulting from genetic, autoimmune, and environmental factors. Diagnosis typically involves clinical evaluation and hormonal blood tests, primarily measuring elevated follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and low estradiol levels. The consequences of POI extend beyond reproductive health, significantly increasing risks for cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and mental health challenges such as anxiety and depression. Management strategies include hormonal replacement therapy (HRT), fertility preservation through oocyte or embryo cryopreservation, and tailored psychosocial support. Lifestyle modifications, including diet and exercise, also play a critical role in patient care.
