AWARENESS REGARDING RISK FACTORS, SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS AND TREATMENT OF STROKE AMONG COMMUNITY PEOPLE, DURGAPUR

Abstract

Stroke is one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide. Lack of awareness regarding risk factors, early signs and symptoms, and timely treatment contributes significantly to increased morbidity and mortality. This study intends to focus on assessment of awareness regarding stroke among community people in Durgapur. 162 community people are selected through convenient sampling technique. A descriptive cross-sectional study design was adopted, and data were collected from community residents using a structured questionnaire. The study findings indicate that although some participants had basic knowledge about stroke, there was inadequate awareness regarding warning signs and emergency management. Results revealed that most of community people (12.96%) had low level of awareness, (80.25%) community people had moderate level of awareness and (6.79%) community people had appropriate level of awareness. There was non-significant association between risk factors and associated demographic variables like age, sex, educational qualification, occupation. The study finding has non-significant education for nursing practice, nursing education, nursing research.
