EMERGING TRENDS IN STEM CELL THERAPY FOR BLOOD DISORDERS: FROM BLOOD BANKING TO HEMATOLOGICAL MALIGNANCIES

Stem cell therapy (SCT) has become a cornerstone of regenerative hematology, offering promising therapeutic and methods that may be able to treat a variety of blood problems, both malignant and non-malignant. Advances in blood banking, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), and regenerative medicine have substantially expanded the clinical utility of stem cell-based therapies. The goal of this review is to offer a thorough summary of emerging trends in SCT for blood disorders, with emphasis on blood banking, transplantation strategies, therapeutic applications, and recent technological innovations shaping modern hematological practice. hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) derived from bone marrow, peripheral blood, umbilical cord blood, and induced pluripotent stem cells have significantly improved the treatment of haematological cancers, bone marrow failure syndromes, and hereditary blood disorders. Progress in stem cell collection, cryopreservation, donor selection, and transplantation has enhanced engraftment, safety, and clinical outcomes. Emerging technologies, including gene editing, ex vivo stem cell expansion, stem cell engineering, artificial intelligence, and precision medicine, are driving the development of personalized regenerative therapies. Nevertheless, challenges related to Graft-versus-host disease, treatment costs, donor availability, long-term safety, ethical governance, and healthcare inequities continue to influence clinical implementation. SCT is redefining the management of blood disorders through continuous advances in transplantation biology, regenerative medicine, and precision therapeutics. Ongoing multidisciplinary research, technological innovation, and equitable healthcare strategies are expected to further improve treatment efficacy, accessibility, and long-term patient results.
