THE IMPACT OF IRRIGATION INTENSITY ON FOOD SECURITY IN CHHATTISGARH, INDIA

Abstract

Crop diversification is one of the most important risk management, stability of soil fertility, income-enhancing strategies for farmers and food security. The study found that double cropping is being done well in only 1535123ha.(33%) of the net sown area. The highest positive relationship between crop diversification index and irrigation intensity found to be in Kabirdham district followed by Balrampur and Bemetra district and negative relationship showed in Janjgir-Champa district followed by Raipur and Sakti districts. For the expansion of crops other than paddy, irrigation facilities and infrastructure will have to be increased in the for double cropping and food security.
