STABILITY ANALYSIS FOR SEED YIELD AND OIL CONTENT IN SUNFLOWER OVER DIVERSIFIED ECOLOGIES OF INDIA

Abstract

Present investigation was undertaken in sunflower to study stability parameters for seed yield, its 10 component traits and oil content in newly developed sunflower hybrids using diverse parental lines and across diverse agro-climatic conditions in India. Stability studies for lines revealed that all lines recorded below average stability (bi>1) for oil content while for seed yield, PET 2-7-1B, ARM 249B among lines and R 16, EC-601957 and EC-623023 among testers were stable and indicated greater resistance to environmental change (above average stability).  From the present investigation on stability hybrids identified for early maturity were CMS 234A XEC- 601957 and ARM 249A X EC-6230323. Among the crosses, CMS 234A XEC- 601957, CMS 234A X RHA 138-2, 234A X R 16, ARM 249A X EC-6230323, ARM 249A X RHA 138-2 and ARM 249A X R-271-1 found stable for seed yield and important component character in a study on sunflower hybrids for adoptability and stability revealed that complete hybrid stability over all parameters was not proved. For seed oil content, stable hybrids with high heterosis and positive SCA effects were recorded in crosses CMS 234A X RHA 138-2 and ARM 249A X EC-6230323. Stable hybrids for yield and oil were CMS 234A X RHA 138-2 and ARM 249A X EC-6230323.
