Relationship between serum creatinine and obesity in children in Xinjiang, China
This study was designed to analyze the relationship between serum creatinine and body mass index in children in Xinjiang, China. We used a stratified sampling method to select 5222 children aged 6-17 years in 3 areas in Xinjiang and then measured serum creatinine with an enzymatic method. Our analysis showed that the mean serum creatinine of the various age groups differed, and the reference value increased gradually with age.
Effects of beraprost sodium on renal function and inflammatory factors of rats with diabetic nephropathy
Beraprost sodium (BPS) is a prostaglandin analogue. We investigated its effects on rats with diabetic nephropathy. There were 20 rats each in the normal control group (NC), the diabetic nephropathy group (DN), and the BPS treatment group. The rats in DN and BPS groups were given a high-fat diet combined with low-dose streptozotocin intraperitoneal injections. The rats in the BPS group were given daily 0.6 mg/kg intraperitoneal injections of this drug.
Decreased retinol-binding protein 4 in the sera of patients with end-stage renal disease after kidney transplantation
Retinol-binding protein 4 (RBP4) is a novel adipokine that has been associated with insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. Patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) have very high serum RBP4 levels. However, whether successful kidney transplantation alleviates these elevated serum RBP4 levels is unclear. The serum RBP4 levels of 24 ESRD patients were determined before transplantation and at 1 day, 1 week, and 1 month after kidney transplantation. The control group included 22 healthy subjects.
