R. Zhou, Xu, J. L., Wu, D., and Tang, J. L., Analysis of prognostic factors for infantile rotavirus infection, vol. 14, pp. 790-796, 2015.

In this study, we investigated the prognostic factors of infantile rotavirus (RV) infection. A total of 102 infants with RV enteritis were divided into 2 groups according to the standards of improvement and cure at the time of discharge from the hospital: improvement group (N = 58; 47 males and 11 females with an average age of 15.19 ± 5.03 months) and the cure group (N = 44; 34 males and 10 females with an average age of 10.02 ± 4.92 months).

Relationship between clinicopathological features and HIF-2α in gastric adenocarcinoma

N. Li, Wang, H. X., Qin, C., Wang, X. H., and Han, F. Y., Relationship between clinicopathological features and HIF-2α in gastric adenocarcinoma, vol. 14, pp. 1404-1413, 2015.

Hypoxia influences tumor growth by inducing angiogenesis and genetic alterations. Hypoxia-inducible factor-2α (HIF-2α) plays an essential role in oxygen homeostasis. Expression of HIF-2α-inducible genes is associated with tumor progression. In this study, we investigated this correlation immunohistochemically and using quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction to examine various clinical and pathological features in 55 specimens of gastric cancer and 40 specimens of normal gastric tissue.

Clinical significance of lymphatic vessel invasion in stage I non-small cell lung cancer patients

K. F. Ma, Chu, X. Y., and Liu, Y., Clinical significance of lymphatic vessel invasion in stage I non-small cell lung cancer patients, vol. 14, pp. 1819-1827, 2015.

The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the prognostic influence of lymphatic vessel invasion (LVI) in stage I non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. From January 2004 to December 2007, LVI was detected in 57 patients with T1N0M0 NSCLC; therefore, 114 patients with the same pathology, T stage, and surgery method, but without LVI, were selected as the control group to compare survival. The overall survival and relapse-free survival rates were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method, log-rank test, and Cox proportional hazards analysis.

c-erbB-2 expression and prognosis of gastric cancer: a meta-analysis

Z. Q. Wang and Sun, B. J., c-erbB-2 expression and prognosis of gastric cancer: a meta-analysis, vol. 14, pp. 1782-1787, 2015.

The prognostic role of c-erbB-2 in gastric cancer is controversial. We conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the relationship between c-erbB-2 expression and the prognosis of gastric cancer. We evaluated 20 published studies assessing the relationship between c-erbB-2 and gastric cancer prognosis. The Revman 5.0 software was used to perform literature retrieval, article selection, data collection, and statistical analysis. We utilized a fixed-effect model to pool hazard ratios and 95% confidence intervals from the studies.

Values for serum procalcitonin, C-reactive protein, and soluble triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells-1 in predicting survival of patients with early-onset stroke-associated pneumonia

J. Xie, Zhang, X. H., and Zhu, W. Y., Values for serum procalcitonin, C-reactive protein, and soluble triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells-1 in predicting survival of patients with early-onset stroke-associated pneumonia, vol. 14, pp. 4716-4723, 2015.

We examined the value of serum procalcitonin (PCT), C-reactive protein (CRP), soluble triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells-1 (sTREM-1) for predicting the survival of patients with early-onset stroke associated pneumonia (EOP). A total of 207 stroke patients were enrolled, and 91 developed EOP. Upon admission, serum PCT, CRP, sTREM-1 levels, clinical pulmonary infection score, and Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II score were all significantly higher in patients with EOP than in those without EOP (P

Predictive value of CK20 in evaluating the efficacy of treatment and prognosis after surgery for colorectal cancer

W. X. Li, Xiao, H. W., Hong, X. Q., and Niu, W. X., Predictive value of CK20 in evaluating the efficacy of treatment and prognosis after surgery for colorectal cancer, vol. 14, pp. 5823-5829, 2015.

Herein, correlations between expression levels of CK20 and efficacy of treatment and postoperative prognosis of colorectal cancer were evaluated to elucidate the clinical value of CK20. Postoperative follow-up was performed on 62 patients who underwent surgery for colorectal cancer between January 2010 and December 2010. Samples of tumor tissues and intraperitoneal drainage fluids were collected. Blood samples were obtained during the 2-year follow-up period.

Serum level of endothelial cell-specific molecule-1 and prognosis of colorectal cancer

H. Jiang, Fu, X. G., and Chen, Y. T., Serum level of endothelial cell-specific molecule-1 and prognosis of colorectal cancer, vol. 14, pp. 5519-5526, 2015.

We evaluated the clinical significance and explored the prognostic value of serum endothelial cell-specific molecule-1 (ESM-1) expression in colorectal cancer (CRC) in a Chinese population. Serum samples were obtained from 89 CRC patients undergoing surgical treatment and 90 healthy volunteers (control group). ESM-1 levels in serum samples from CRC patients and controls were measured using a sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Overall survival was analyzed by the log-rank test, and survival curves were plotted according to the Kaplan-Meier method.

We calculated the pooled hazard ratios (HRs) using the RevMan 5.2 software.

Expression and clinical significance of PIWIL2 in hilar cholangiocarcinoma tissues and cell lines

Y. J. Chen, Xiong, X. F., Wen, S. Q., Tian, L., Cheng, W. L., and Qi, Y. Q., Expression and clinical significance of PIWIL2 in hilar cholangiocarcinoma tissues and cell lines, vol. 14, pp. 7053-7061, 2015.

The objective of this study was to explore the relationship between PIWI-like protein 2 (PIWIL2) and clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis after radical resection. To accomplish this, we analyzed PIWIL2 expression in hilar cholangiocarcinoma tissues and cell lines. PIWIL2 expression was detected by immunohistochemistry in 41 hilar cholangiocarcinoma samples and 10 control tissues. Western blotting and immunocytofluorescence were used to investigate PIWIL2 expression in the cholangiocarcinoma cell line QBC939 and the bile duct epithelial cell line HIBEpic.

Clinical significance of fibroblast growth factor receptor-3 mutations in bladder cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis

X. Liu, Zhang, W., Geng, D., He, J., Zhao, Y., and Yu, L., Clinical significance of fibroblast growth factor receptor-3 mutations in bladder cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis, vol. 13, pp. 1109-1120, 2014.

Mutations in the fibroblast growth factor receptor-3 (FGFR3) gene are frequently found in bladder cancer, but their prognostic value remains controversial. To globally summarize the association between FGFR3 mutations and the grade and stage of bladder cancer, and to analyze the predictive role of FGFR3 mutations with respect to survival, eligible studies were identified and assessed for quality through multiple search strategies.
