As a member of the POU-domain family, the POU1F1 is a positive regulator for growth hormone, prolactin and thyroid-stimulating hormone b, by binding to target DNA promoters as a dimer in mammals. This study described the polymorphisms at the goat POU1F1-DdeI locus and analyzed the distribution of alleles in 15 indigenous Chinese goat breeds. The PCR-RFLP analysis showed a predominance of the D1D1 genotype and the D1 allele, with average frequencies of 0.550 and 0.790, respectively, irrespective of goat utility type.

MC1R, KIT, IGF2, and NR6A1 as markers for genetic differentiation in Thai native, wild boars, and Duroc and Chinese Meishan pigs

P. Klomtong, Chaweewan, K., Phasuk, Y., and Duangjinda, M., MC1R, KIT, IGF2, and NR6A1 as markers for genetic differentiation in Thai native, wild boars, and Duroc and Chinese Meishan pigs, vol. 14, pp. 12723-12732, 2015.

Mutations in melanocortin 1 receptor (MC1R) gene and v-kit Hardy-Zuckerman 4 feline sarcoma viral oncogene homolog (KIT) gene have been shown to affect coat color patterns in pigs. Additional functional marker genes, such as insulin like growth factor-2 (IGF2) and orphan nuclear receptor, germ cell nuclear factor (NR6A1), have been described for variations in factors such as fat deposition, litter size, and vertebra number in pigs.

729G/C polymorphism in Toll-like receptor 4 results in increased susceptibility to bladder cancer

B. Wan, Tan, J., Zeng, Q., He, L. Y., Gan, Y., Dai, Y. B., and Yao, K., 729G/C polymorphism in Toll-like receptor 4 results in increased susceptibility to bladder cancer, vol. 14, pp. 15482-15487, 2015.

In this study, the association between the 729G/C polymorphism in Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and the risk of bladder cancer was investigated. A total of 376 patients with bladder cancer and 380 healthy volunteers from the Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University (China) were enrolled in this study between January 2008 and February 2014. The TLR4-729G/C polymorphism was detected by the polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism assay.
