Z., Protective effect of the n-butanol Toona sinensis seed extract on diabetic nephropathy rat kidneys, vol. 15, p. -, 2016.

The objective of this study was to observe the protective effect of the n-butyl alcohol phase of Toona sinensis seed extract on the kidneys of diabetic nephropathy (DN) rats and its preliminary mechanism. Male wistar rats were administered a normal or high-fat diet for 1 month. DN rats were divided into a model group and a petroleum ether phase of T. sinensis seed extract intervention group. The intervention group was administered 5 mg·100 g-1·day-1 extract.

Effects and mechanism of lipoic acid on beta-amyloid-intoxicated C6 glioma cells

Z. G. Xing, Yu, G. D., Qin, L., Jiang, F., and Zhao, W. H., Effects and mechanism of lipoic acid on beta-amyloid-intoxicated C6 glioma cells, vol. 14, pp. 13880-13888, 2015.

β-amyloid peptides (Aβs) can exert neurotoxic effects through induction of oxidative damage, whereas lipoic acid (LA), a powerful antioxidant, can alleviate oxidative damage. In this study, we explored the effect and mechanism of action of LA on beta-amyloid-intoxicated C6 glioma cells. Cells were randomly divided into three groups: control (vehicle), Aβ, and LA + Aβ. The LA + Aβ group was treated with LA for 2 h, then both the Aβ-only and the LA + Aβ groups were incubated with 25 μM Aβ for 24 h. Cell viability was measured by the MTT method.

Dietary zinc may attenuate heat-induced testicular oxidative stress in mice via up-regulation of Cu-Zn SOD

Y. Cao, Li, Y. S., Li, Z. J., Wang, F., and Li, C. M., Dietary zinc may attenuate heat-induced testicular oxidative stress in mice via up-regulation of Cu-Zn SOD, vol. 14, pp. 16616-16626, 2015.

Zinc (Zn) is important for male mammalian reproduction. In this study, we sought to clarify the role of Zn in heat-induced testicular damage in mice. Eighteen mice were divided into either control (con), heat (heat) and heat plus Zn (H+Zn) treatment groups, and fed diets containing 60 (con and heat groups) or 300 (H+Zn group) mg/kg Zn sulfate for one month. Mice in the con group were then maintained at 25°C, while mice in heat and H+Zn groups were exposed to 40°C for 2 h daily, for eight days. Mouse testes and serum from each animal were analyzed.

Protective effect and mechanism of probucol in the treatment of spinal cord injury

W. B. Zhu, Wang, Y. H., Sun, G. F., and Wu, J. H., Protective effect and mechanism of probucol in the treatment of spinal cord injury, vol. 14, pp. 8029-8037, 2015.

To investigate the effects of probucol on the treatment of spinal cord injury in rat, 80 rats were randomly divided into two groups of 40: a group treated with probucol and a control group. Allen’s method was used to establish a rat model of spinal cord injury. After establishment, probucol (500 mg·kg-1·day-1) was intraperitoneally injected into the treatment group rats for 1 week, while the same amount of saline was used to treat the control group.
