The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and clinicopathological features of lung adenocarcinoma. The expression of MMP-9 and VEGF was evaluated by immunohistochemistry of 30 samples from lung adenocarcinoma patients and 12 paratumoral (normal) tissue samples. In addition, the change in VEGF or MMP-9 expression after MMP-9 or VEGF blockade, respectively, was measured using western blot in lung adenocarcinoma A549 cells.

This study investigated the effects of angiotensin II (AngII) intervention, using captopril and losartan, on the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2), MMP-9, tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1), and collagen in rats with pulmonary hypertension, in an effort to understand mechanisms underlying pulmonary vascular remodeling. A total of 40 male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into normal group, model group, captopril group, and losartan group.

Interethnic variation of the MMP-9 microsatellite in Amerindian and Mexican Mestizo populations: considerations for genetic association studies

We studied the interethnic variation of the MMP-9 microsatellite in the Mestizo and Amerindian populations using blood samples collected from 435 healthy unrelated individuals from the Central Valley of Mexico. DNA samples were genotyped using the -90 (CA)12-27 repeat near the MMP transcriptional start site using capillary electrophoresis. Our data were compared with those from African, Asian, and European populations (N = 729). Both Mestizo and Amerindian populations were in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (P ≥ 0.05).

Resveratrol (RSV) has a beneficial role in the prevention of diabetes and alleviates some diabetic complications, such as cardiomyopathy. We investigated cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1), COX-2, nuclear factor κB (NF-κB), matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), and sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) mRNA expression levels in heart tissue after RSV treatment in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. After induction of chronic diabetes with STZ, 10 mg RSV/kg per day was administered to DM and DM+RSV groups for four weeks.
