Identification of genes involved in regulatory mechanism of pigments in broiler chickens

T. M. Tarique, Yang, S., Mohsina, Z., Qiu, J., Yan, Z., Chen, G., and Chen, A., Identification of genes involved in regulatory mechanism of pigments in broiler chickens, vol. 13, pp. 7201-7216, 2014.

Chicken is an important model organism that unites the evolutionary gap between mammals and other vertebrates and provide major source of protein from meat and eggs for all over the world population. However, specific genes underlying the regulatory mechanism of broiler pigmentation have not yet been determined. In order to better understand the genes involved in the mechanism of pigmentation in the muscle tissues of broilers, the Affymetrix microarray hybridization experiment platform was used to identify gene expression profiles at 7 weeks of age.

Gene expression profiles in the cerebellum of transgenic mice over expressing the human FMR1 gene with CGG repeats in the normal range

J. J. Fernández, Martínez, R., Andújar, E., Pérez-Alegre, M., Costa, A., Bonilla-Henao, V., Sobrino, F., Pintado, C. Ó., and Pintado, E., Gene expression profiles in the cerebellum of transgenic mice over expressing the human FMR1 gene with CGG repeats in the normal range, vol. 11, pp. 467-483, 2012.

Modifications in the GABA pathway are considered to be responsible for motor alterations in animal models for fragile X-associated tremor ataxia syndrome. We analyzed the expression profile in the cerebellum in a transgenic mouse model that over expresses the human FMR1 gene with CGG repeats in the normal range. We used the “GeneChip Mouse Gene 1.0 ST Array” from Affymetrix analyzing 28,853 well-described and -characterized genes.

Microarray profiles of ex vivo expanded hematopoietic stem cells show induction of genes involved in noncanonical Wnt signaling

D. L. Zanette, Lorenzi, J. C. C., Panepucci, R. A., Santos, A. R. D., Molfetta, G. A., Araujo, A. G., Junior, W. A. Silva, and Zago, M. A., Microarray profiles of ex vivo expanded hematopoietic stem cells show induction of genes involved in noncanonical Wnt signaling, vol. 12, pp. 1691-1697, 2013.

The low number of hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) in umbilical cord blood (UCB) is directly related to increased risk of transplant failure. Effective ex vivo expansion of HSC has been tried for many years, with conflicting results because of the inability to reproduce in vitro HSC proliferation in the same way it occurs in vivo. We compared freshly isolated HSC with their expanded counterparts by microarray analysis and detected activation of the noncanonical Wnt (wingless-type MMTV integration site family) pathway.

Gene selection based on multi-class support vector machines and genetic algorithms

B. Feres de Souza and de Carvalho, A. Ponce de L., Gene selection based on multi-class support vector machines and genetic algorithms, vol. 4, pp. 599-607, 2005.

Microarrays are a new technology that allows biologists to better understand the interactions between diverse pathologic state at the gene level. However, the amount of data generated by these tools becomes problematic, even though data are supposed to be automatically analyzed (e.g., for diagnostic purposes). The issue becomes more complex when the expression data involve multiple states. We present a novel approach to the gene selection problem in multi-class gene expression-based cancer classification, which combines support vector machines and genetic algorithms.
