Opportunistic infections (OIs) are common among human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) patients; however, genetic susceptibility to these infections has not been studied. Recent studies have shown that interleukin-8 (IL-8) A/T genotype carriers are more susceptible to a variety of diseases. In this study, we showed the effects of IL-8 gene polymorphisms on OIs and symptoms such as sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), tuberculosis (TB), diarrhea, shortness of breath, weight loss, and viral load, in HIV and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome patients.

Sevoflurane downregulates interleukin-6 and interleukin-8 levels in patients after cardiopulmonary bypass surgery: a meta-analysis

Q. B. Yu, Li, H. M., Li, L. L., Wang, S. Y., and Wu, Y. B., Sevoflurane downregulates interleukin-6 and interleukin-8 levels in patients after cardiopulmonary bypass surgery: a meta-analysis, vol. 14, pp. 19016-19027, 2015.

This study aimed to investigate the effect of sevoflurane on serum levels of interleukin (IL)-6 and IL-8 in patients who underwent cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). The strength of the association between sevoflurane treatment and serum level of IL-6 and IL-8 was determined in patients who underwent CPB by summary standard mean differences (SMDs); 95% confidence interval (CI) was used.
