We investigate the relationship between IL-18 -607C/A and -137G/C genetic polymorphisms and development of acute pancreatitis in a Chinese population. A total of 153 patients were consecutively recruited from the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University between January 2013 and November 2014. Genotyping of IL-18 -607C/A and -137G/C variants was performed using the polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism method.

Interleukin-18 (IL-18), an important proinflammatory cytokine, has been reported to play a potential pathological role in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Results from previous studies on the association between IL-18 polymorphisms and RA are conflicting. To clarify this, an updated meta-analysis of all available studies on IL-18 polymorphisms and RA was conducted. Eligible articles were identified by searching databases, including PubMed, Ovid, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, and China Knowledge Resource Integrated Database, for the period up to May 1, 2015.

The interleukin-18 (IL-18) gene -607 C/A polymorphism has been reported to be associated with gastrointestinal cancer, but there are conflicting results from previous studies on said topic. Therefore, the aim of this meta-analysis is to derive a more precise estimation of the association between the -607 C/A polymorphism in the IL-18 gene and gastrointestinal cancer risk. Literature searches of PubMed, Google Scholar, and Web of Science databases were carried out in 2015. Five studies were assessed with a total of 1618 cases and 1155 healthy controls.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of mon­telukast on the expression of interleukin (IL)-18, telomerase reverse tran­scriptase (TERT), and Bcl-2 in the brain tissue of neonatal rats with hypox­ic-ischemic brain damage (HIBD). To establish the model of HIBD, 8% oxygen was applied to rats after the unilateral carotid artery was ligated. Twenty rats were randomly assigned to the control group, while another 40 were used to establish the HIBD model and were randomly divided equally into model group and treatment group.
