Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a complex polygenic disease whose development is dependent on many genetic factors. The let-7 family, an important and widely studied microRNA family, has been shown to play an important role in the initiation and progression of HCC. In this study, we examined the possible associations between single-nucleotide polymorphisms in the promoter region of the let-7 family (rs10877887) and the susceptibility and prognosis of HCC, using a case-control research model.

Functional polymorphisms of the cyclooxygenase-2 gene and prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma - a cohort study in Chinese people

R. Liang, Yan, X. X., Lin, Y., Li, Q., Yuan, C. L., Liu, Z. H., Li, Y. Q., Liang, R., Yan, X. X., Lin, Y., Li, Q., Yuan, C. L., Liu, Z. H., and Li, Y. Q., Functional polymorphisms of the cyclooxygenase-2 gene and prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma - a cohort study in Chinese people, vol. 15, p. -, 2016.

Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) influences carcinogenesis through regulation of angiogenesis, apoptosis, cytokine expression, and immune response suppression. It has been well established that COX-2 is overexpressed in a variety of human cancers, such as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In this study, we aimed to evaluate the association between COX-2 polymorphisms and prognosis of HCC. We genotyped 200 HCC patients of Chinese Han descent for COX-2 gene polymorphisms (-765G>C and -1195G>A) using PCR-RFLP.

Identifying significant pathways of hepatitis B virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma based on crosstalk and network pathways

L. M. Wen, Wu, W. Z., Peng, X. C., Wen, L. M., Wu, W. Z., and Peng, X. C., Identifying significant pathways of hepatitis B virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma based on crosstalk and network pathways, vol. 15, p. -, 2016.

This study aims to identify significant pathways in hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) based on the pathway network strategy. We proposed a pathway network where a protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was integrated with the crosstalk of pathways. Pathway data were first obtained from background PPI network, Reactome pathway database, and common genes between mRNA differentially expressed genes (DEGs), and miRNA target genes of HBV-related HCC.

Mitochondrial tRNA mutations may be infrequent in hepatocellular carcinoma patients

G. Li, Duan, Y. X., Zhang, X. B., Wu, F., Li, G., Duan, Y. X., Zhang, X. B., and Wu, F., Mitochondrial tRNA mutations may be infrequent in hepatocellular carcinoma patients, vol. 15, p. -, 2016.

Mitochondrial DNA mutations have been shown to play important roles in the pathogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In particular, genes encoding mitochondrial tRNA (mt-tRNA) are hotspots for pathogenic mutations associated with HCC. Recently, an increasing number of studies have reported the involvement of such mutations in this disease. As a result, several mt-tRNA mutations associated with HCC have been described. Some of these are neutral polymorphisms and may not cause mitochondrial dysfunction.

RUNX3 promoter methylation correlation with pathogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma in Asians

W. Lu, Liu, Y., Liu, L. - L., Zhuang, P. - H., Lu, W., Liu, Y., Liu, L. - L., and Zhuang, P. - H., RUNX3 promoter methylation correlation with pathogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma in Asians, vol. 15, p. -, 2016.

The aim of this study was to elucidate the role of RUNX3 promoter methylation in the pathogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) among Asians. For this purpose, we performed a comprehensive search of Chinese and English language scientific literature databases using stringent selection criteria; ultimately, we identified relevant studies that specifically assessed the correlation between RUNX3 promoter methylation and HCC. All data was retrieved and analyzed by two independent investigators using the STATA software (version 12.0).

Expression of toll-like receptors in hepatic cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma

L. Sun, Dai, J. J., Hu, W. F., Wang, J., Sun, L., Dai, J. J., Hu, W. F., and Wang, J., Expression of toll-like receptors in hepatic cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma, vol. 15, p. -, 2016.

Toll-like receptors (TLRs) can specifically identify pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) by recognizing structural patterns in diverse microbial molecules, and can provide an effective defense against multiple microbial infectious. A variety of TLRs can be expressed on the surface of liver parenchymal as well as nonparenchymal cells. Kupffer cells are a type of hepatic nonparenchymal macrophage, and are positively associated with the severity of liver fibrosis.
