Polymorphisms and allele frequencies of glutathione S-transferases A1 and P1 genes in the Polish population

Glutathione S-transferases (GST) A1 and P1 are crucial enzymes involved in the biotransformation of drugs, carcinogens, and toxins, and their activity may influence drug response, susceptibility to diseases, and carcinogenesis. The genes encoding these enzymes, GSTA1 and GSTP1, have been examined in many studies because of their genetic variability, which may affect enzymatic activity. The goal of this study was to determine the distribution of the alleles GSTA1*A/*B and GSTP1*A, *B, and *C in the Polish population.

Association analysis between the OPG g.27667T>A genetic variant and bone mineral density in Chinese postmenopausal women

J. J. Zhao, Feng, D. H., Cheng, L., Lu, T., and Wang, L., Association analysis between the OPG g.27667T>A genetic variant and bone mineral density in Chinese postmenopausal women, vol. 13, pp. 7332-7338, 2014.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the association of the g.27667T>A genetic variant in the osteoprotegerin (OPG) gene with bone mineral density (BMD) and osteoporosis. A total of 393 primary osteoporosis subjects and 402 healthy controls were recruited. The BMD of the femoral neck hip, lumbar spine (L2-4), and total hip were evaluated by Norland XR-46 dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. The g.27667T>A genetic variant was genotyped using created restriction site-polymerase chain reaction.

Genetic variants on 17q21 are associated with asthma in a Han Chinese population

F. - X. Li, Tan, J. - Y., Yang, X. - X., Wu, Y. - S., Wu, D., and Li, M., Genetic variants on 17q21 are associated with asthma in a Han Chinese population, vol. 11, pp. 340-347, 2012.

A genome-wide study has shown an association between SNPs located on 17q21 and asthma. Such associations have been identified in several populations, but little is known about the Han Chinese population. We conducted a case-control study in a Han Chinese population to investigate the relationship between SNPs located on 17q21 and asthma; 241 asthmatic patients and 212 healthy controls were recruited from the outpatient clinics of the Nanfang Hospital, Guangdong Province, southern China.
