In this study, we analyzed dominant molecular markers to estimate the genetic divergence of 26 popcorn genotypes and evaluate whether using various dissimilarity coefficients with these dominant markers influences the results of cluster analysis. Fifteen random amplification of polymorphic DNA primers produced 157 amplified fragments, of which 65 were monomorphic and 92 were polymorphic. To calculate the genetic distances among the 26 genotypes, the complements of the Jaccard, Dice, and Rogers and Tanimoto similarity coefficients were used.

Polymorphic microsatellite markers in the traditional Chinese medicinal plant Paris polyphylla var. yunnanensis

Y. Song, Li, M. F., Xu, J., Zhao, Z., and Chen, N. Z., Polymorphic microsatellite markers in the traditional Chinese medicinal plant Paris polyphylla var. yunnanensis, vol. 14, pp. 9939-9942, 2015.

Paris polyphylla var. yunnanensis is a traditional Chinese medicinal plant and is listed as vulnerable by the IUCN. This medicinal herb is well known for its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, most notably as an ingredient of the hemostatic compound “Yunnan Baiyao”. However, over-exploitation of the plant for economic purposes is pushing the species to the brink of extinction. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop conservation strategies for this endangered species, for example, through assessment of its genetic structure and diversity.
