Predominance of the A allele but no association of the KCNJ11 rs5219 E23K polymorphism with Type 2 Diabetes in a Nigerian population
Association between BMP-2 and COL6A1 gene polymorphisms with susceptibility to ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament of the cervical spine in Korean patients and family members
COL6A1 and BMP-2 genes have been implicated in ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) susceptibility in Japanese and Chinese Han populations. However, no study has yet investigated the DNA of unaffected family members of patients with OPLL. This study investigated differences in genetic polymorphisms of BMP-2 and COL6A1 between Korean patients with OPLL and their family members (with and without OPLL). A total of 321 subjects (110 patients with OPLL and 211 family members) were enrolled in the study.
Effect of two single nucleotide polymorphisms on milk yield and composition
The bovine prolactin (PRL) and bovine growth hormone (bGH) genes exhibit several polymorphisms. Some of them can be detected by molecular techniques using restriction endonucleases, such as RsaI for the PRL gene and MspI for the bGH gene. We examined the relationship between the PRL-RsaI and bGH-MspI polymorphisms and some economically important characteristics of Holstein cows. Research was conducted on 315 Holstein cows from 5 municipalities in the Department of Antioquia, Colombia.
Lack of association between Cyclin D1 gene G870A polymorphism and esophageal cancer: evidence from a meta-analysis
The association between the Cyclin D1 gene (CCND1) G870A polymorphism and esophageal cancer has been widely evaluated, with conflicting results. As meta-analysis is a reliable approach to resolving discrepancies, we aimed to evaluate this association. Data were available from 9 study populations incorporating 1898 cases and 3046 controls.
Lack of effect of bone morphogenetic protein 2 and 4 gene polymorphisms on bone density in postmenopausal Turkish women
We investigated the effect of bone morphogenetic protein 2 and 4 (BMP-2 and -4) gene polymorphisms on bone density in postmenopausal Turkish women with osteoporosis. The frequency of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of BMP-2 and -4 genes was analyzed in 101 osteoporotic-postmenopausal women and 52 postmenopausal women with positive bone mineral density scores. We evaluated the frequency of the thymine→cytosine nucleotide variation at position 538 for BMP-4 and the transposition of adenine→thymine at codon 190 for BMP-2, with PCR.
Heritabilities and genetic correlations for reproductive traits in an F2 reciprocal cross chicken population
Studies estimating genetic parameters for reproductive traits in chickens can be useful for understanding and improvement of their genetic architecture. A total of 1276 observations of fertility (FERT), hatchability of fertile eggs (HFE) and hatchability of total eggs (HTE) were used to estimate the genetic and phenotypic parameters of 467 females from an F2 population generated by reciprocal crossing between a broiler line and a layer line, which were developed through a poultry genetics breeding program, maintained by Embrapa Swine and Poultry, Concordia, Santa Catarina, Brazil.
