Nuclear factor (NF)-κB is a transcription factor that controls cell proliferation, differentiation, and immunity. Activated NF-κB1 is associated with the pathogenesis of coronary artery disease (CAD) and genetic polymorphisms in NF-κB1 have a plausible role in modulating the risk of CAD.
Coronary artery disease
Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a major global health problem. In China, the incidence of CAD and the rate of mortality arising from it have increased every year. Interleukin-17A (IL-17A) is a proinflammatory cytokine produced by activated T cells, and it may be involved in the development of CAD. Genetic polymorphisms in functional regions of the IL17A gene have a plausible role in modulating the risk of CAD.
We conducted a case-control study to investigate the role of one single nucleotide polymorphism of MMP-9 rs3918242 in the development of coronary artery disease. The rs3918242 was amplified with 435-bp DNA fragments using polymerase chain reaction coupled with restriction fragment length polymorphism.
The enzyme endothelial nitric oxide synthase (NOS3) is an important mediator of atherosclerotic disease and is associated with coronary artery disease (CAD). There is growing evidence that polymorphisms in NOS3 influence the progression of CAD; however, there is also a controversy regarding the association of polymorphisms in the gene encoding NOS3 and CAD.
To investigate the role of IL-6 polymorphism (-174G/C and -572C/G) in the development of coronary artery disease (CAD), CAD patients (224) and control subjects (260) were recruited between January 2012 and December 2014. Genotyping at IL-6 -174G/C and -572C/G was conducted via polymerase chain reaction coupled to restriction fragment length polymorphism. Results indicated that several disease risk factors were significantly higher in CAD patients as compared to the control subjects.
We conducted a case-control study to investigate the association between IL-10-G1082A (rs1800896) polymorphism and the development of coronary artery disease (CAD) in the Chinese population. We recruited 295 CAD patients and 355 healthy controls from the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University between April 2012 and December 2014. Subjects were genotyped for IL-10-G1082A polymorphisms by using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism.
