Population genetic structure and demographic history of the ground beetle Chlaenius costiger (Coleoptera: Carabidae) in the Tsinling-Dabashan Mountains of central China were estimated using mitochondrial DNA sequences (Cox1-tRNALeu-Cox2) of 144 individuals from 16 local populations. The high haplotype diversity was accompanied by low nucleotide diversity. Phylogenetic analysis (Bayesian inference) of the 43 haplotypes revealed no phylogeographic structure.

Genetic diversity and historical demography of the narrow-range endemic Alpine toad, Scutiger liupanensis, in the Liupan Mountains of central China

L. - N. Su, Meng, H. - Z., and Li, X. - C., Genetic diversity and historical demography of the narrow-range endemic Alpine toad, Scutiger liupanensis, in the Liupan Mountains of central China, vol. 14, pp. 4865-4878, 2015.

The genetic diversity and historical demography of the narrow-range endemic Alpine toad, Scutiger liupanensis, in the Liupanshan National Forest Park of central China were estimated using cytochrome b and cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) from 85 individuals from five local populations. Both the haplotype diversity (Hd) and the nucleotide diversity (Pi) were very high. Phylogenetic analysis of the 63 haplotypes revealed two major clades, and an analysis of molecular variance attributed most of the variation to within populations.

Complementary DNA cloning, sequence analysis, and tissue transcription profile of a novel U2AF2 gene from the Chinese Banna mini-pig inbred line

S. Y. Wang, Huo, J. L., Miao, Y. W., Cheng, W. M., and Zeng, Y. Z., Complementary DNA cloning, sequence analysis, and tissue transcription profile of a novel U2AF2 gene from the Chinese Banna mini-pig inbred line, vol. 12, pp. 925-934, 2013.

U2 small nuclear RNA auxiliary factor 2 (U2AF2) is an important gene for pre-messenger RNA splicing in higher eukaryotes. In this study, the Banna mini-pig inbred line (BMI) U2AF2 coding sequence (CDS) was cloned, sequenced, and characterized. The U2AF2 complete CDS was amplified using the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) technique based on the conserved sequence information of cattle and known highly homologous swine expressed sequence tags.

Estimation of genetic parameters for growth traits in a breeding program for rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) in China

G. Hu, Gu, W., Bai, Q. L., and Wang, B. Q., Estimation of genetic parameters for growth traits in a breeding program for rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) in China, vol. 12, pp. 1457-1467, 2013.

Genetic parameters and breeding values for growth traits were estimated in the first and, currently, the only family selective breeding program for rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) in China. Genetic and phenotypic data were collected for growth traits from 75 full-sibling families with a 2-generation pedigree. Genetic parameters and breeding values for growth traits of rainbow trout were estimated using the derivative-free restricted maximum likelihood method. The goodness-of-fit of the models was tested using Akaike and Bayesian information criteria.

Genetic diversity of Saccharum spontaneum from geographical regions of China assessed by simple sequence repeats

L. N. Fan, Deng, H. H., Luo, Q. W., He, H. Y., Li, Y., Wang, Q. N., Huang, Z. X., Wu, J. T., Li, Q. W., Liu, S. M., and Qi, Y. W., Genetic diversity of Saccharum spontaneum from geographical regions of China assessed by simple sequence repeats, vol. 12, pp. 5916-5925, 2013.

Saccharum spontaneum is the most variable wild relative of sugarcane with potential for use in sugarcane improvement programs. In order to help preserve and exploit this species, 152 accessions from eight major geographical regions in China, including Hainan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Fujian, and Jiangxi provinces, were investigated by analyzing 20 simple sequence repeats (SSRs), including 11 genomic SSRs (gSSRs) and nine SSRs developed from expressed sequence tags (EST-SSRs).

High genetic variation among Aschersonia placenta (Clavicipitaceae) isolates from citrus orchards in China

P. P. Wang, Song, X. H., and Zhang, H. Y., High genetic variation among Aschersonia placenta (Clavicipitaceae) isolates from citrus orchards in China, vol. 12, pp. 6192-6202, 2013.

Aschersonia placenta had been recognized as an important fungal pathogen of whiteflies. In recent years, natural occurrence of Aschersonia in whitefly populations was observed in many citrus orchards in the southern regions of China. We analyzed 60 A. placenta isolates obtained from Chinese citrus orchards, using inter-simple sequence repeats to examine the genetic diversity and to determine whether intraspecific variation is correlated with geographic origin. One hundred and fourteen fragments were generated from these isolates; 97% were polymorphic.

Genetic analysis of 30 InDel markers for forensic use in five different Chinese populations

C. T. Li, Zhang, S. H., and Zhao, S. M., Genetic analysis of 30 InDel markers for forensic use in five different Chinese populations, vol. 10, pp. 964-979, 2011.

Allele frequencies of 30 insertion/deletion polymorphism (InDel) markers previously selected and validated for forensic purposes were assessed in 419 unrelated individuals originating from five different populations of P.R. China, including Chinese Han, Chinese Hui, Uighur, Mongolians, and Tibetans.
