H. - J. Xiao, Jin, J. - H., Chai, W. - G., and Gong, Z. - H., Cloning and expression analysis of pepper chlorophyll catabolite reductase gene CaRCCR, vol. 14, pp. 368-379, 2015.

Opening the porphyrin macrocycle of pheophorbide a and forming the primary fluorescent chlorophyll catabolites are key steps in the chlorophyll catabolism pathway. These steps are catalyzed by pheophorbide a oxygenase and red chlorophyll catabolite reductase (RCCR). In this study, a novel RCCR gene, CaRCCR, was isolated from the pepper (Capsicum annuum L.). The full-length CaRCCR complementary DNA is comprised of 1173 bp, contains an open reading frame of 945 bp, and encodes a 314-amino acid protein.

The heat-shock transcription factor (Hsf) gene CaHsfA2 (GenBank accession No. JX402923) was cloned from the Capsicum annuum thermotolerant line R9 by combining the techniques electron cloning and rapid amplification of cDNA ends. The gene, which is 1436 bp in length, had an open reading frame of 1089 bp that encoded 362 amino acids. There was an 831-bp intron between positions 321 and 322 of the cDNA.

H. X. Chen, Jiang, H., Huo, J. L., Wen, J. F., Zhu, H. S., Ma, C. H., Zhou, H., Lv, J. H., and Deng, M. H., Molecular characteristics and cloning of two pepper genes AN2 and UPA20, vol. 13, pp. 2531-2538, 2014.

The complete coding sequences (CDSs) of “Yunnan Purple Pepper No.1” (Capsicum annuum L.) AN2 and UPA20 genes were amplified using the reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction on the basis of the conserved sequence information of some Solanaceae plants and known highly homologous pepper expressed sequence tags. The nucleotide sequence analysis of these 2 genes revealed that pepper AN2 gene encoded a protein of 263 amino acids that has high homology with the AN2-like protein of 4 species: tobacco, tomato, potato, and petunia.

Kill curve analysis and response of first generation Capsicum annuum L. B12 cultivar to ethyl methane sulfonate

M. H. Arisha, Liang, B. - K., Shah, S. N. Muhammad, Gong, Z. - H., and Li, D. - W., Kill curve analysis and response of first generation Capsicum annuum L. B12 cultivar to ethyl methane sulfonate, vol. 13, pp. 10049-10061, 2014.

Pepper seeds (Capsicum annuum L.) var. B12 were mutagenized by four presoaking treatments in ten concentrations of ethyl methane sulfonate (EMS) to determine the sensitivity of the first generation (M1) to mutagens. The spectrum of mutations and induced variability for various quantitative traits, including germination, percent plant height, injury occurrence, survival ratio, first three fruits weight, and number of seeds per first fruit, were observed in the M1 generation.

Molecular cloning, sequence characterization of a novel pepper gene NADP-ICDH and its effect on cytoplasmic male sterility

M. H. Deng, Wen, J. F., Huo, J. L., Zhu, H. S., Dai, X. Z., Zhang, Z. Q., Zhou, H., and Zou, X. X., Molecular cloning, sequence characterization of a novel pepper gene NADP-ICDH and its effect on cytoplasmic male sterility, vol. 11, pp. 3020-3031, 2012.

NADP-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenase (NADP-ICDH) is an important enzyme involved in energy metabolism. The complete coding sequence of the pepper (Capsicum annuum) NADP-ICDH gene was amplified using a reverse transcriptase PCR based on the conserved sequence information of the tomato and other Solanaceae plants and known highly homologous pepper ESTs.

Exogenous abscisic acid increases antioxidant enzymes and related gene expression in pepper (Capsicum annuum) leaves subjected to chilling stress

W. L. Guo, Chen, R. G., Gong, Z. H., Yin, Y. X., Ahmed, S. S., and He, Y. M., Exogenous abscisic acid increases antioxidant enzymes and related gene expression in pepper (Capsicum annuum) leaves subjected to chilling stress, vol. 11, pp. 4063-4080, 2012.

To elucidate how physiological and biochemical mechanisms of chilling stress are regulated by abscisic acid (ABA) pretreatment, pepper variety (cv. ‘P70’) seedlings were pretreated with 0.57 mM ABA for 72 h and then subjected to chilling stress at 10°/6°C (day/night). Chilling stress caused severe necrotic lesions on the leaves and increased malondialdehyde and H2O2 levels.

Molecular cloning and tissue expression analyses of two novel pepper genes: heterotrimeric G protein beta 2 subunit and ArcA1

M. H. Deng, Huo, J. L., Zhu, H. S., Zhou, H., and Wen, J. F., Molecular cloning and tissue expression analyses of two novel pepper genes: heterotrimeric G protein beta 2 subunit and ArcA1, vol. 12, pp. 1223-1231, 2013.

We isolated two transcription factor genes, heterotrimeric G protein beta 2 subunit (Gβ2) and ArcA1, from pepper (Capsicum annuum). The complete coding sequences were amplified using reversed transcriptase PCR based on conserved sequence information of Solanum lycopersicum and several other plant species. Nucleotide sequence analysis of these two genes revealed that the pepper Gβ2 gene encodes a protein of 376 amino acids that belongs to the WD40 superfamily.

Cloning and bioinformatic analysis of full-length novel pepper (Capsicum annuum) genes TAF10 and TAF13

J. F. Wen, Huo, J. L., Chen, H. X., Ma, C. H., Jiang, H., Zhu, H. S., Zhou, H., and Deng, M. H., Cloning and bioinformatic analysis of full-length novel pepper (Capsicum annuum) genes TAF10 and TAF13, vol. 12, pp. 6947-6956, 2013.

We isolated two TATA-binding protein-associated factor (TAF) genes, TAF10 and TAF13, from pepper (Capsicum annuum). The complete coding sequences were amplified using reverse transcriptase-PCR on the basis of conserved sequence information of eggplant and several other plant species. Nucleotide sequence analysis of these two genes revealed that the pepper TAF10 gene encodes a protein of 103 amino acids that belongs to the TAF10 superfamily.
