A single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the TNRC9 gene was identified as a breast cancer susceptibility genetic variant in recent genome-wide association studies of women of European ancestry. We investigated whether TNRC9 polymorphisms are associated with risk of breast cancer in Chinese women of the Han nationality. We genotyped the SNPs rs3803662, rs1362548, rs1123428 in 870 women, including 388 breast cancer patients and 482 healthy controls, via the PCR-single strand conformation polymorphism procedure and by sequence detection.

Germline mutations in the BRCA1 gene are known predictive markers for the development of hereditary breast cancer. Nevertheless, no comprehensive study has been performed targeting the presence and relevance of BRCA1 mutations in Moroccan breast cancer patients. We here present an analysis of BRCA1 gene regions (exon 2 and exon 11a/b) of 50 female Moroccan breast cancer patients with early disease onset (≤40 years) or familial disease backgrounds.

Genetic variation in ERCC1 and XPF genes and breast cancer risk

Breast cancer is one of the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women worldwide, and we conducted a case-control study by genotyping seven potentially functional SNPs, three in ERCC1 and four in XPF, in a Chinese population of 417 breast cancer cases and 417 cancer-free controls. Three SNPs in ERCC1 and four SNPs in XPF were genotyped by using the Taqman Universal PCR Master Mix in the GeneAmp® PCR System 9700 with Dual 384-Well Sample Block Module, and assays were performed on a 384-well plate on the Sequenom MassARRAY platform.

Malignant cells show increased invasion potency in vitro and in vivo. This process is considered to be mediated by matrix-metalloproteases (MMPs). Hypoxia-inducible factor-2α (HIF-2α) may upregulate MMP-2 expression; however, little is known about the correlation between HIF-2α and MMP-2 expressions in breast cancer. The current study investigated this correlation immunohistochemically according to various clinical and pathological features in 102 paraffin-embedded archival tissue block specimens from patients with breast cancer.

We investigated whether the MDR1 C3435T polymorphism is associated with fibrocystic changes (FCC), infiltrating ductal breast cancer (IDBC), and/or clinical-pathological features of IDBC in Mexican patients. Samples from women who received surgical treatment in 2007 at the Centro Médico de Occidente (México) were included in the analysis.

This study aimed to investigate calcitonin as an effective therapy for osteoporosis in patients with bone pain during the anastrozole treatment of breast cancer. Ninety-one patients, who were on anastrozole treatment for breast cancer and also suffered anastrozole-induced bone pain, were randomly divided into two groups: the calcitonin group received salmon calcitonin and Caltrate D, and the control group received Caltrate D.

We conducted a hospital-based case-control study to investigate the associations of dietary intake of folate and MTHFR C677T and A1298C polymorphisms with breast cancer in a Chinese population. A 1:1-matched case-control study was conducted. Two hundred and thirty patients who were newly diagnosed and histologically confirmed breast cancer and 230 controls were enrolled from Xinxiang Central Hospital. Folate intake was calculated by standard portion size and relative size for each food item in the questionnaire. Genotyping of MTHFR C677T and A1298C was performed by PCR-RFLP.

The association between the microsomal epoxide hydrolase 1 gene (EPHX1) Tyr113His polymorphism and lung cancer and breast cancer risk has been reported in many recent studies, but there is no consensus among the results. Thus, we examined the association between the EPHX1 Tyr113His polymorphism and lung cancer through a meta-analysis. A comprehensive literature search was performed using the Pubmed and Embase databases. Odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals were used to assess the strength of associations.

The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between apparent diffusion coefficients (ADCs), the relative apparent diffusion coefficient (rADC), and the pathological prognostic factor human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER-2) in patients with breast cancer. A total of 64 women with breast cancer underwent breast diffusion-weighted imaging. HER-2 expression was detected in histological specimens. The ADC value, rADC value, and HER-2 level were determined.
