The objective of the present study was to estimate genetic parameters for skin thickness (ST) and postweaning weight gain (PWG550) in Nellore cattle. Records were obtained from 152,392 Nellore animals born between 2001 and 2011. ST was measured in the posterior region of the animal’s scapula with a millimeter caliper. The animals were assigned to different contemporary groups, formed on the basis of farm, year, sex, feeding regimen at weaning, date of weaning, feeding regimen at 450 days of age, and date of weighing at 450 days of age.

Molecular phylogeny and a taxonomic proposal for the genus Streptococcus

F. Póntigo, Moraga, M., and Flores, S. V., Molecular phylogeny and a taxonomic proposal for the genus Streptococcus, vol. 14, pp. 10905-10918, 2015.

Alternative phylogenies for the genus Streptococcus have been proposed due to uncertainty about the among-species group relationships. Here, we performed a phylogenetic analysis of the genus Streptococcus, considering all the species groups and also the genomic data accumulated by other studies. Seventy-five species were subjected to a Bayesian phylogenetic analysis using sequences from eight genes (16S rRNA, rpoB, sodA, tuf, rnpB, gyrB, dnaJ, and recN).
